Academic ChallengeIs your child up to the ‘challenge’? Complete 4 out of 6 offered challenges to earn a trophy. The events are throughout the year. After School Activities Clyde Hill offers several clubs and activities throughout the course of the year. This year we will offer chess, choir, jump rope club, ski club, service team and tech team. Additional activities will be added as space allows.
Assemblies PTSA funds several assemblies each year to enrich curriculum and for fun.
Book Room Volunteers This is the room our reading specialists use to see small groups of students throughout the day. Keeping the book sets organized means our reading specialists can focus on their main task: working with our kids.
Cultural Connections This program pairs new families with a veteran Clyde Hill family in order to smooth the transition to a new school and often a new environment.
Educational aides and specialists Certainly our most impactful program, providing funding to hire extra staff beyond what the school district provides is PTSA’s biggest contribution to Clyde Hill. While we can’t control the number of students per class, we can contribute to a reduced student-teacher ratio by adding educational aides and reading and math specialists. PTSA funds one aide per grade level, as well as two reading and two math specialists. These personnel rotate through the classes in order to provide assistance during instruction times.
Grants Start-up grants are provided to each teacher to cover any additional costs of preparing their classroom. Funds for educational grants are set aside in order to take advantage of opportunities that aren’t foreseen, but would be beneficial to a class or grade. Educational grants must meet certain requirements and gain approval from the Grant Committee.
Library Gift Book Program Many students give funds to provide a book for the library during the month of their birthday. This is a easy way to help our library and allow students to experience the joy of giving.
Library Volunteers Each class visits the library once a week, where our librarian shares a story with them. Then the students are encouraged to browse and borrow a book or two. Volunteers are needed to check out books and to restock returns.
PALS (recess games) This parent-run programs coordinates fun recess games for the lunch recess period. Games like jump rope and lap club provide extra opportunities to get involved.
Reflections This is a national PTA program that encourages involvement in the arts. Students may submit projects in literature, photography, graphic arts, music or dance that interpret the annual theme. Entries are submitted to the school for judging. Winning entries progress to the district level and possibly the state and/or national level.
Room parents The room parent is the teacher’s liaison with the class when it comes to class parties, class volunteers, and class participation in the school auction.
Service Team These fourth and fifth grade volunteers serve the school many ways which in the past have included projects such as hosting an all school movie, selling hot cocoa to raise money for a designated charity, and helping with the school talent show.
Ski Bus Held on Wednesdays during January and February, this winter club is open to first through fifth graders. Students take a bus up to the Summit and receive a two-hour ski lesson.
Yearbook Yearbooks are a fun way to commemorate the year. Orders are typically taken after the winter holidays and the yearbooks arrive in late May. |

Bellevue Schools Foundation support BSF is a non-profit organization that exists to support all schools in the Bellevue School District. BSF provides field trip grants, books and other educational materials, science equipment, funding for new classrooms, funding for trial courses and more. Clyde Hill benefits directly from BSF, which provides the FOSS science kits we use with our science curriculum. PTSA believes BSF enriches our district in many ways and supports this organization. In October, we provide volunteers during the BSF annual phonathon, and in late Spring, we host a table at the BSF Spring for Schools Luncheon.
Directory The School directory is provided for personal use to all school families.
Emergency Preparedness This committee helps the school meet and exceed its obligations to safety during emergency situations. Each classroom is provided an emergency kit, which is updated every year. Food, water and blankets are also kept in the premises in the event of an extended stay at the school.
Fundraising Support At Clyde Hill, we strive to find “painless” fundraisers; that is, buying opportunities that fit so well into your lifestyle you would have spent the money even if Clyde Hill didn’t benefit. These programs are in addition to our major fundraisers: the Clyde Hill Auction, the Walkathon and the Book Fair.
Golden Acorn Award This annual award recognizes an individual or individuals who have made a significant difference in our school due to their gifts of volunteer time. Nominations are taken in May and the award is given in June at the annual volunteer luncheon.
Health Clinic Support For first aid and illness, students visit the office. A group of PTSA volunteers provides first aid and support during the office staff’s busiest time of day.
Hearing and Vision Screening Support One of the main tasks of the school nurse is to perform health screenings. PTSA provides volunteers to facilitate these screenings.
Legislative committee (WA State PTA) Clyde Hill has a representative that keeps us abreast of educational issues being considered by Washington State PTA.
Newsletter and Website PTSA provides these resources for effective communication and information sharing.
Picture Day volunteers Picture day is once a year and many hands are needed to get all students and staff members photographed.
Reader Board PTSA volunteers maintain a large announcement board in front of the school to offer reminders of upcoming events.
Staff Appreciation Week This week of treats and surprises for teachers and staff is PTSA’s way of saying Thank You for a great year.
